Children Available:
There are infants, toddlers and children up to the age of eight years who are available for adoption. Girls and boys are equally available. Interested potential parents may choose the sex of the child.
Parent Requirements:
There are no documented age restrictions on the part of persons wishing to adopt a child from Guatemala. Adoptions are open to both married and single persons. Couples and individuals may also adopt if there is a previous divorce.
Re ferral and Travel Time:
The dossier for Guatemala can be completed simultaneously with the home study. Once the dossier is received in Guatemala, the referral comes almost immediately. Approximately six to seven months elapses from the time the dossier arrives until the time the person travels to Guatemala, in order to bring the child home.
The time the couple spends in Guatemala amounts to usually three to four days. This includes a trip to the US Embassy to process the child’s visa.
Costs:
The International Program Administrative fee and the Guatemala Foreign fee are based of those set by the organization contracting with the given orphanage and the orphanage fee itself. This does not include the adoption home study fee, travel, food and lodging, CIS-1-600A application and assorted required certified documents.
